2023 Update on Sepsis and Septic Shock in Adult Patients: Management in the Emergency Department

Sepsis and septic shock remain major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in adult patients presenting to the emergency department. Early recognition and timely intervention are critical, as delayed management significantly increases the risk of organ failure and death. Over the past few years, evolving clinical evidence has refined recommendations regarding antimicrobial timing, fluid resuscitation strategies, vasopressor selection, and supportive care measures. Given the dynamic nature of these updates, clinicians require a clear and concise synthesis of current best practices.
