A Structured Literature Review and Bibliometric Network Analysis of Pandemic Supply Chain Research

COVID-19 infected people worldwide in early 2020, substantially disrupting global trade. Many individuals believe that governments and international companies were unprepared. While academics have projected the economic consequences of pandemics on occasion, there has been minimal research on supply chain management issues during pandemics until 2020. 84% of all pandemic supply chain research was published in the first ten months of 2020. Because the world is running supply chains in response to the epidemic, this material must be consolidated and presented for comprehension and future research. This review covers that gap by evaluating publications published since 1997, focusing on most research published since the COVID-19 epidemic began. Research techniques are used to summarize the literature citations, and the reports are categorized based on several important aspects to explain the magazines’ contents further. This study also includes bibliometric co-citation analysis, ordering pandemic supply chain literature by author, publisher, and article. According to the findings, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the supply chain study focused mostly on influenza and the healthcare supply chain. The post-COVID-19 research, on the other hand, studies the food supply chain more extensively and includes a larger range of research tools, such as simulation, modelling, and empirical approaches.

Finally, it is widely thought that governments worldwide were not as well prepared for the COVID-19 situation as they may have been. Scholars have debated the possibility of a pandemic and its repercussions, emphasizing the need for all levels of government to be prepared. Perhaps our dramatic experience will now inspire research that will aid worldwide preparation.
