In brief

Journal editors review all articles submitted to their Journal, choose those they believe are appropriate for the Journal to send for peer review, and use peer reviewers’ advice to make a final judgment about what gets published. As a result, it is critical to understand how people make their judgments. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic is a landmark event in our field. However, starting an open-access journal for the global community of risk and crisis communication researchers and practitioners has never been a better moment. In this blog, we provide an update on the Journal’s position in terms of acceptance rates, global viewpoint, and reading rates (1).

Introduction

Journal editors are generally short of time and must make an early assessment of the appropriateness of work. When confronted with a manuscript, they often examine the cover letter, abstract, conclusion, and references. They utilize this to determine if the contribution is appropriate for the publication and has a practical effect. Editors are constantly balancing the originality and relevance of a paper against the readership’s expectations and the Journal’s influence. Journal editors aim to publish high-quality research that is relevant to their audience. Your proposal is more likely to be approved if it includes the following elements:

  • Is within the scope of the Journal
  • It is novel and describes research that advances the field
  • Adds to an active research field
  • It is carefully prepared and formatted with all required sections present
  • Uses clear and concise language
  • Follows ethical standards

Acceptance Rate and Review Timeframe

Over the last two years, the Journal has seen an increase in submissions while establishing itself as a significant platform for risk and crisis communication studies. The Journal of authors rejected to modify and resubmit their study from March 2018 to March 2020. As a result, the Journal received 34% of submissions throughout these two years. Over the last two years, 63% of papers that got “revise and resubmit” verdicts were approved by the Journal, while 27% were rejected. 10% of papers that got a revise and resubmitted judgment had not yet been resubmitted at the time certain writers authored this article. The editing staff has worked hard to shorten the turnaround time for manuscripts submitted in the past two years. The average and median review timeframes are fewer than 60 days. However, we appreciate the Editorial Board’s numerous contributions to the Journal, particularly their prompt and constructive critiques(2).

Global Perspective

The Journal is dedicated to human and mediated communication concerns related to global crises, hazards, and emergencies. Our multinational editorial board reflects our international focus, as do the writers and publications we publish. Author institutions of approved papers have come from Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States in the last three years. Furthermore, publications have examined how people communicate about crises and threats worldwide. Cases and places in Australia, Cyprus, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United States have been studied. Articles published in the Journal have been downloaded all over the world, in addition to representing authors and situations on a worldwide scale. The top ten nations where articles are downloaded are listed below:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Netherlands
  • Australia
  • Malaysia
  • Canada
  • India
  • Germany
  • Indonesia
  • France

The Journal effectively reflects its worldwide goal in author institutions, article sites, and article distribution, assisting in the global sharing of information and research on crises and risks. The Pubrica systematic review services promote further submissions from scholars worldwide.

Growing Readership

The science journal editor and its articles’ circulation have increased. There have been 12,058 downloads in the last three years. Most downloads (74%) originate from educational institutions, with commercial organizations coming in second (18%). The remaining percentage of downloads comprises government institutions (3%) and other/nondescript entities (5%). Pubrica literature services, as an open-access journal, are essentially driven by the goal of disseminating crisis and risk communication information throughout the world(3).

Future Directions

We have proven the Journal’s expanding prestige and reach in this piece. The Journal also stays quick and sensitive to our time’s defining challenges, such as the special call for research on COVID-19. There is room for expansion in terms of publishing more research from varied areas throughout the world and reaching out to other nonacademic entities. As the world’s attention remains focused on the COVID-19 epidemic, we must respond to the challenge of distributing knowledge that might enable solutions to this and future crises.
