Recent Innovations in Healthcare: Systematic Review
A systematic assessment and summary of healthcare innovation research published between 2000 and 2021.Most of the research was cross-sectional designs employing quantitative or numerous case studies using qualitative approaches. They were all concerned with the adoption of new inventions and processes. Future research should take the following five paths: (a) Multilevel approaches to studying innovation at the individual, group, and organizational levels; (b) a combination of quantitative and qualitative data; (c) longitudinal designs (with innovation as both a dependent and independent variable); (d) the use of experimental designs in interventions; and (e) the investigation of innovation generation and structural innovations. Healthcare innovation is becoming a popular but ill-defined option for those seeking novel ways to reduce costs while improving treatment quality. Identifying and comprehending the unmet needs of patients and providers can aid in the process of healthcare delivery innovation. We performed two extensive literature reviews to assess the demands of key stakeholders throughout healthcare delivery and developed a conceptual framework for healthcare innovation. Our findings indicate a disagreement between patients’ and clinicians’ preferences in three critical areas: treatment and outcomes, care process, and care structure. As a result, healthcare innovation may be best characterized as meeting the unmet needs of each stakeholder by lowering or eliminating stakeholder conflicts.
