If you’ve read a lot of books and magazines published in the United Kingdom or Canada, British spellings may appear accurate to you. However, as previously stated, most American publishers’ house style requires the usage of American spelling. Table 1 shows some of the most significant differences. Another characteristically British practice is to double the consonant in terms like focused, wonderful, and traveller. However, in American spelling, the consonant is only doubled when the stress is on the word containing the consonant; hence, focused, magnificent, and traveller.

However, take note of the trio glamour, glamorous, and glamorize. American spelling demands for colour, honour, labour, neighbour, and words of a similar kind. Regarding using British spelling for proper nouns, there are differing opinions: The Associated Press Stylebook advises “the Labor Party,” although Chicago prefers “the Labour Party.”
