Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a common complication of diabetes and the most common cause of end-stage renal disease. Oxidative stress and inflammation are important mediators in the development of DN. GSTO1 is an important regulator of redox homeostasis and inflammation. Thus, GSTO1 could have an involvement in DN, but its causality is yet to be determined. Hence, we assessed the association between GSTO1 and DN via Mendelian randomization, transcriptomic analysis, and treatment of HK-2 cells with high glucose concentrations.
