What is cohort studies
Cohort studies are longitudinal studies where the participants are repeatedly studied over a long time. Cohorts or people with a common circumstance, such as work, are recruited and followed throughout time. Few cohorts would have been exposed to a specific risk factor over the follow-up period, calculating the outcomes over time. This variable’s influence can be investigated. As a result, they are practical epidemiological measures for assessing the role of variables in the illness process. A cohort study follows people in groups that are either exposed to or not exposed to a factor across time and then assesses the incidence of an outcome. Because of this technicality, cohort studies are advantageous for studying incidence, etiologies, natural history, and prognosis. The incidence rate (IR), cumulative incidence (CI), relative risk (RR), and hazard ratio may all be estimated using these studies (HR). However, unequivocal causality cannot

Since it is possible to monitor and control the outcome, predictor, and confounding factors better with a prospective cohort research design than with a retrospective one, this study type is regarded as preferable. Cohort studies have significant drawbacks, including a higher risk of loss to follow-up than cross-sectional research, confounding factors as a critical problem in data analysis, information and recollection bias, and less control over variables.
