A Narrative Literature Review Development for an Academic Research Thesis

Despite the fact that systematic literature reviews have been the subject of much research, narrative literature reviews have received less attention. This study aims to increase understanding of the narrative literature review process. By drawing on process theory, the literature on systematic literature reviews, and empirically examining the literature review processes for bachelor’s theses in Europe, we demonstrate that a narrative literary process is iterative, non-structured, and multi-layered; that it produces several cumulative written results; and that it is embedded in a social environment in which diverse official and non-official individuals lead the process and support the beginning researcher. This work is a unique attempt to utilize process theory to characterize the development of a literature review process, offering ground-breaking insights into narrative literature reviews, particularly across many human sciences areas.

This study’s purpose is to understand the narrative literature review procedure better. To do this, we look at a narrative literature review as a social process with cumulative and iterative features, using process theory as a framework. To our knowledge, process theory has not been the basis for any previous literature reviews. Based on the most recent systematic literature reviews, we outline the potential phases of the technique and conduct an experimental analysis of the narrative literature review procedure. The methodology section of this paper describes our empirical setting, data, and analysis. The findings are then presented. The study is concluded with suggestions for more research and a discussion of the importance and limitations of the results.
