Translating research into practice (TRIP)

The initiative Translating Research into Practical (TRIP) is a prime example of how science and research are transformed from the scientist’s desk into substantive practice interchange. Clinical research translation may become “business as usual” for any health professional with Allied Health TRIP (AH-TRIP) aid. To eliminate health inequalities, it is essential to translate and put scientific information into practice. However, barriers prevent disadvantaged groups from widely implementing evidence-based treatments. The supporting components—focal point, patient community, unprotected populations, methodology, interventions for change, and results measured—were abstracted from each successful application.

The most common TRIP interventions were education, and the most common theoretical frameworks were organizational theory or the theory of adult learning. An emphasis on reducing mistakes was present in more than half of the initiatives, and more than half intended to employ information technology. There are still significant gaps in the scientific data despite several randomized controlled evaluations of quality improvement and implementation projects. The effectiveness of application techniques will be determined by the environment in which they are used, as well as by the intended action change, practitioner and patient approach, and the health care settings. The TRIP initiatives cover a broad spectrum of patients, locations, providers, and mediators. These studies should considerably advance the fields of applied research projects and quality improvements.
