CONSORT Checklists
CONSORT stands for Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials and refers to several efforts developed by the CONSORT Group to address issues associated with insufficient reporting of randomized controlled trials.
The CONSORT Statement
The CONSORT Statement is an evidence-based, minimal set of recommendations for reporting randomized trials that are the main product of CONSORT. It provides a consistent method for authors to write trial results reports, promoting thorough and transparent reporting and assisting with critical evaluation and interpretation.
The CONSORT Statement includes a 25-item checklist as well as a flow diagram. The checklist elements focus on describing how the trial was conceived, analyzed, and interpreted, while the flow diagram depicts the progression of all trial participants. The “Explanation and Elaboration” paper for the CONSORT Statement discusses and demonstrates the ideas underpinning the CONSORT Statement. We highly advise using it in combination with the CONSORT Statement. Furthermore, CONSORT Statement extensions have been produced to provide extra guidance for RCTs with unique designs, data, and treatments.
Endorsement of the CONSORT Statement
The CONSORT Statement has been adopted by several significant general medical publications, as well as a number of speciality medical journals and key editorial groups. In addition, CONSORT is part of a more substantial effort to enhance the reporting of many forms of health research and, thereby, the quality of research utilized in healthcare decision-making.
Pubrica offers the most recent definitive version of the CONSORT 2010 Statement and the most recent information on extensions.
